Differences between PA6 and PA66

They belong to the same category of polyamide fibers, but PA6 is made from the condensation of hexamethylenediamine adipate, while PA66 is made from the polymerization of caprolactam. Due to the different molecular formulas of their polymeric materials, the mechanical properties of the two are also very different:

PA66 has strong hygroscopicity, reduced impact strength and ductility after drying, poor resistance to weak acids, and low carburization to gasoline and mineral oil. It is the most sensitive nylon material to ultraviolet light and oxidative degradation among nylons; Compared with PA6, its hardness is 12% higher, has better resilience, and a higher melting point. At around 264 ° C, it feels dense.

Compared with PA66, PA6 has better impact strength and flexural fatigue life under wet conditions; it has less polymerization and crystallization at low temperatures, so the mold has low shrinkage and small tolerances; it is easy to dye, has a lower melting point (228℃), and the hand feels relatively soft. However, PA6 is the most hygroscopic material among all nylon materials, so pay attention to the shrinkage of the mold when forming.

In the industrial production process, due to the different production processes and raw materials of PA6 and PA66, there is also a price gap between the two. PA66 is 3,000 - 4,000 yuan/ton more expensive than PA6.

Since fasteners have high requirements for hardness, PA66 materials are generally given priority. In addition to fasteners, Evan's website also selects PA66 for products that require a certain hardness; Evan's impact resistance and soft material, PA6 will be used more for hose joints and other parts. Most casters, locks, handles, hinges, etc. in Yiwu also choose PA6. This is because PA6 has low hardness, is not easy to crack, and has a long service life.
