How to remove a broken bolt

The rupture of the bolt is a bad news for all mechanical engineering practitioners, especially if it breaks inside the hole. If it is operated incorrectly, it will be a problem for removal and subsequent reinstallation. This article can provide you with several methods. For reference, help you solve similar problems.

1.& nbsp; Use broken bolt extractor

You can first punch the hole in the center of the broken bolt, use a central drill bit to drill holes in the bolt section (note that the outer diameter of the drill bit here must be smaller than the inner diameter of the broken bolt), and then knock the broken bolt extractor into the broken bolt. Drill into the hole, and then screw it out in the opposite direction to remove the broken bolt.

2.& nbsp; Welding method

You can weld another bolt, nut or handle to the broken section of the bolt, and then slowly screw it out when the two are tightly connected (this method is only for bolts with larger diameter, and cannot be applied to bolts with smaller diameter).

3.& nbsp; Lubrication method

Drip lubricating oil into the bolted joint, then slowly knock it out face to face, and remove iron filings generated during the process (this method is most common in the production process).

4.& nbsp; Knocking method

You can slowly break the broken bolt, then dump the broken slag, and clean the inside of the threaded hole.

5.& nbsp; Drilling method

Directly expand the diameter of the threaded hole, remove the broken bolt, install a nut in the threaded hole, and then reinstall the bolt.

6.& nbsp; Repair welding method

Weld the threaded hole where the broken bolt is located flat, then polish it, and then re-drill it (here, try to re-drill it next to the original threaded hole rather than in place).
