The IPrating comes fromIngress Protection, which isa specification for water and dust prevention in IEC60529 (International Electrical Standards Conference).The first digit after IP is the level of dust prevention, and the second digit is the level of water resistance. For example, theIP54dust prevention rating is Level5, and the water resistance rating is Level4, which means that the intrusion of dust cannot be completely prevented, but the incoming dust does not affect the operation of the machine, and it can prevent water from splashing from all over. If only the waterproof level is expressed, X can be usedinstead of the number in the dustproof level to indicate that no dustproof test has been carried out, for example:IPx5.
